The Oriental White-eye: The Little Pollinator

Oriental White Eye

The Oriental White-eye is a tiny, energetic bird that is easy to recognise by the distinctive ring of white feathers around each eye. Its yellow throat and bright yellow-green plumage give it a cheerful appearance, helping it stand out against the greenery.

Despite its small size, this bird is constantly on the move. It travels through the branches in small flocks, searching leaves and flowers for tiny insects, nectar and fruit. Its quick movements can make it difficult to follow, but its soft, tinkling calls often reveal its presence before it comes into view.

An interesting feature of the Oriental White-eye is its role in pollination. As it visits flowers to feed on nectar, pollen can cling to its feathers and be carried to other blooms. This tiny bird therefore contributes to the natural processes that help its surroundings flourish.
